In the city and at work, I feel as though I never accomplish all that is asked of me. There is just too much going on and I feel like I still have so much left to do at the end of every day. Too many moving pieces. This just might be me, but I love the fact that nothing other than walking is expected of me during a trek. Just get from point A to point B, one step at a time. Simple. My head feels clear.

Walking all day in the mountains, breathing the fresh air, drinking the cool clear water, eating a simple but well-earned meal, and spending the evenings in laughter with friends shows you that you can be happy without all the extra comforts that we associate with living well or being “successful”. This takes the edge off when we get back to the city, knowing that you can truly be happy with a lot less.

The night sky is something I look forward to on every trek. Summer treks in particular allow us to see the Milky Way in all its glory. The scale of what you are looking at takes a while to comprehend. Stare at the sky long enough and all your problems and worries seem petty and insignificant.

The bird life is extraordinary. Not only do we get to see new birds, but they also seem to have less issues with humans. Allows us to get a little closer and get a better look. From small colourful birds to large raptors, each trek has been wonderful for bird watching.
